The other weekend, my friend's and I kicked it here a world-class old world italian dining experience. When I entered, I felt like family as they served us all sorts of Italian foods. I quickly, started feeling less and less like family as I realized they did not have breadstick sandwiches, or all you can eat salad. Shortly after, I realized I wasn't actually in an Olive Garden. But they still treated me like family. The best part is, because I wasn't at Olive Garden, the food was actually good! Anyone who doesn't like olives and or gardens should eat here.

Outstanding Italian. Not cheap. Not crazy expensive. Most entrees between $25-$30 Simple pasta dishes $16 - $21. Appetizers $8-$12 Wine list has over 1000 choices. Yes...ONE THOUSAND. Wine Spectator Award of Excellence My Veal Marsala was great as was my wife's Hazelnut Crusted Walleye Best place in GR for a special night out for Italian I had three members of the family stop to make sure we were satisfied and thank us for our business. Portions are not huge but not skimpy. We skipped the apps and just had the entrees and a bottle of wine and was perfectly content.

Amazing experience. Personal tour from the owner of the wine cellar with over 12,000 bottles of wine.

I really love this place! We had our wedding here and the service, attention and food was so great. Each time we dine the family stops over and says hi which is a nice touch. I love the canellinni (spelling) because it has great flavor. The steak is great but there is a breaded chicken thigh that is really spectacular. If you go with your family I highly recommend family style so everyone can share and enjoy. This place is old world so expect a quieter dining room with good food and wine. A great place to have a different surrounding than the normal loud restaurants.

Notos has something special in its cooking, depth of flavor and especially if you combine it with their wine pairings. The food is hand cooked, home cooked. Most people head here for special events but it is a beautiful venue for weddings or other events since there is a cellar in the basement. Try the Gnocchi or other old world Italian dishes and you won't be disappointed. Lounge is pretty cool too and features a few different artists.

Worst experience of my entire life. Awful bartender and ruder owners!!!! Accusing me of less wine knowledge then their sister, another owner. I have my sommelier license and know when a bottle is corked! Asked me of me by tony, one of the owners, if he was "on a tv show" food was disgusting, wine was terrible and all around it was a degrading experience!!!

I got a Groupon for here a few months ago, and it was a treat to have dinner at a more upscale restaurant. The server was attentive and chose some great wines when we ordered a flight and said "Surprise us!" Unfortunately, though, the food just wasn't great. We had the Mozzarella al Forno, a seasonal soup, a salad with pepper dressing, a ravioli dish, and a scallop dish. The scallop dish was the only one i would order again. We got two desserts with the Groupon, and the waiter graciously packaged them up and let us take them home. This was a VERY nice touch.

Attended an intimate wedding ceremony and reception dinner in the wine cellar space over the weekend. I was impressed with the presentation of the food and wine for each course. Food was good and servers were attentive. I would love to rate Notos higher but I found it offensive that Notos double booked the space by having a birthday party in the same dining room area as the wedding dinner. It was tacky and disrespectful to the wedding event. If someone's having a wedding let them have the entire room. Not to mention, it must have been awkward for the other people to sit in the same room as a wedding party. Talk about wedding crashing!

Very friendly service. The food on the whole was a disappointment. Expected a good bread to begin the meal. Disappointed with the biscuity cheese bread over-cooked on the bottom. Would have appreciated a good French or Italian bread. But the real disappointment was the pasta with cheese and lobster. The pieces of lobster were tough and tasted fishy, giving the whole dish an off flavor. Two of the four pasta dishes were good. The desserts were very good. And the service was excellent. But for the price, quite disappointed.

I was honestly torn between 2 and 3 stars for my review here but I am giving them the benefit of the doubt....I had the pollo marscapone and unfortunately the best part was the veggies that came with my meal. The chicken seemed a bit overcooked - it shouldn't NEED the marscapone to make it just ok - and the mashed potatoes were just potatoes, I have made better at home. The person I was with had linguini with pesto. I tried a bite of that and it was really good - that is why they got 3 instead of 2 stars quite frankly. We split the taramisu also and it was pretty good. Not something I would crave but I would get it again for sure. I would eat here again but get pasta, definitely not the chicken another time!

The food was delicious, however, I was with a party of 8, and we were there 2.5 hours. We got in right at 6 because we had reservations, but we didn't order every course even offered and it still took this long. Like I said, the food was delicious, but due to cost and how long our visit was (not sure if our server was bad or this is normal?) I probably wouldn't go back.

So I started with the Mozzarella Al Forno, mozzarella wrapped in prosciutto and baked. The prosciutto was dried out and ruined. It was served with tomato and basil salad... Bring you magnifying glass, it should have been called micro salad. The main course wasn't much better. Melanzane Alla Parmigiana (a.k.a. Veal Parm). The dish was left in the broiler too long and not only was the cheese burned, but the sauce was dried out. The interior looked nice, that's about all I can say positive for this place. I'm being kind giving it 3 stars.

My fiancé and I decided to go to Noto's after reading some good reviews. We didn't have a reservation so we were seated in the bar/lounge which was fine with us. We waited a while for the server to show up and we he did he had all the presence of a Burger King drive through attendant. This should have been a sign of things to come. To keep it short, amateur service with food that is a complete ripoff. Two hours of my life that I regret terribly. Zero stars

I can't make any comment on the food because we were never served. We were never even spoken to after being seated. The hostess sat us, gave us our menus and wine list. The place was empty with only five tables being occupied. We counted five servers. For 15 minutes, they continued to walk by us as we read over the menu. Nobody came to say hello, bring water or anything. After the 15 minutes, we just got up and left. Sad, we were excited to try the food.

We had a Groupon deal for this restaurant, and we decided to try it again after a couple years. I got the house salad, which was lettuce, tomatoes, and a creamy dressing. It was good, but definitely not worth the price. For main course, I created my own pasta. I got fettuccine with tomato vodka cream sauce and I added primavera veggies to it. The veggies were diced very small making it so they didn't add much flavor to the dish. The pasta was cooked well, but the tomato sauce was a little bland. Overall, I was a little disappointed. For 20 dollars, I expect a lot more from a pasta dish. Next was dessert. I got the flourless chocolate torte, which was served with a scoop of gelato and an assortment of berries. The waitress warned me that it was going to be pretty rich, and it was. It was so good though! It was definitely my favorite part of the meal. I would say this about the restaurant: it's very expensive, traditional (both in atmosphere and food preparation), and not really worth the price. I would come back again with a Groupon deal, but I would never pay full price for a meal here.

Excellent food: lamb cooked perfectly and delicious cannolis, made on the premises, were the highlights. Worth the price. I'd like to see a little more polish, such as someone staffing the coat check in area instead of leaving patrons to muddle their way through hanging up their own coats. The owners make you feel very welcome and we will definitely return for another special occasion.

Nothing to write home about. Rather boring food. Gray meat lamb chops, dull cioppino & salmon that you could get at any diner. Just blah, blah, blah. Wine & drinks, blah. You expect more when you pay such prices. One high point was the creme brûlée, as it was the best I'd ever had. We didn't appreciate the 10-15 minute sales pitch interuption by the manager about the banquet facility. Nor the complaining and wining about how hard it is to be in the restaurant business. If your gona do that, offer an appetizer and ask if your guests would be interested in hearing all that crap. Service was good & friendly! The decor of the dining room is that old world style, not bad. For a Friday evening, the place was rather empty. We're not local, so we won't be coming back, even if we were local, maybe only for a take out of the creme brûlée. You only get one chance at a first impression.

We enjoyed a fabulous dinner here to celebrate our 27th Wedding Anniversary! I made reservations online using opentable.com which you can find on the Noto's website. We were so impressed with the hostess, she was so kind and very helpful and made an extra effort to make everyone she seated feel comfortable and sit exactly where they would like to. Very attentive to her guests needs. Our waitress and waiter were wonderful. Very professional and made us feel very comfortable, special and answered our million questions we had. Their recommendations were right on! First I want to say it was a difficult decision deciding on what to get from the appetizer to dessert! We are definitely going back as there are so many other dishes we would like to try. The food.... We started with an appetizer - Mozzarella al Forno which is mozzarella cheese wrapped in a thin slice of an Italian ham. Loved it but would also like to try another one that was medley of meats, olives, cheeses, veges appetizer they had. I ordered a spinach salad that had candied walnuts, raspberries, cantelope and strawberries with a great dressing. Very tasty, it was recommended by another guest and I loved it. I also ordered a dish from the First Course. It was called Gnocchi del Giorno which was potato dumplings with asparagus and a special cream sauce. I had to add some more asparagus from my husbands dish to make it all come out evenly! I thought it was very good. My husband ordered a dish from the second course - the Pesce alle Nocciole which is pan-fried walleye in a Frangelico cream sauce. His meal came with a preview of pasta (mmm good) and his main dish came with a medley of veges and potatoes. He ate the whole thing and thought it was very good. Since it was a special occasion we decided to go all out and get dessert too. First plan was to split a dessert but hey...it was our anniversary! So he got the Italian cream cake and I the espresso crostada! Both were so very good and since I'm the chocolate lover I really loved it. The espresso chocolate just melted in your mouth and was very creamy. It was soooo divine. I would highly recommend trying this very classy restaurant. Tony Noto and brother have done a superb job with offering West Michigan a beautiful, relaxed, fine dining, experience. Just to add: with all this food I could not finish my meal nor dessert! And a comment about attire...we dressed up but there was a group of 4 in jeans and yes they were seated and served in the dining room! So dare to try it on a whim.

I went here on a lunch date and it was: - low key - quiet - upscale - sofisticated - classy The food was excellent. I do recommend the spinich salad with the candied walnuts....devine!

It really makes for a great dining experience when you can tell the employees want you to enjoy your meal and stay at their establishment. From the hostess to the young lady that kept my water glassed filled you can tell customer service training is high up on management's radar. Now to the food and drink, that's why you go to Noto's right? It was all great, the wine list is not a list, it's a heavy book and Della, our waitress, was knowledgeable about what this novice wine drinker wanted and delivered. Everything is homemade, so make sure to eat the bread, pasta, sauce and cheese since you really get to enjoy the chefs take on those classics. I had one of the chefs specials, the veal parmesan smothered in their classic red meat sauce & homemade mozzarella cheese. I've never had veal before anywhere but man was it delicious. Wife had something with a creamy marscapone glaze sauce which she ate all of. So glad we skipped appetizers and salads and kept enough room for dessert. We fought over the bleeding heart w/ the molten lava cake but wife also got some great pie looking thing w/ caramel glaze, it was also very good. The price was what you should expect for this type of service and homemade food but not overpriced at all. After dinner we had the honor of taking a tour of the facility with Tom Noto. Ask the hostess or server for this because the wine cellar room is nothing like you've ever seen. I'm not going to ruin it for you but it's a magical feeling down there. We'll be back.

The BEST meat sauce i have ever tasted. i love this place. the owner is very friendly, he will show give youa tour of the building if you ask him too. i had the kobe steak. it was great and it came with a pasta dish before your steak arrived. THAT pasta dish was the best italian dish i have ever ate. in fact, it was better than the steak. we also had the anti-pasta appetizer......beyond words. i dont even eat onions and the onions that came on the anti-pasta platter were devine. GO TO THIS PLACE!!! but make sur eyou bring your purse/wallet because it isn't cheap.

Oddly slow service for a very light night. Expensive considering the food. $150 tab for 2 adults and a teenager and they added a $3 charge for sharing a salad. Customer relationship fail. Relic of GR's restaurant past.

I find Noto's a weird combination of old-school restaurant and banquet center. On one end of the building, a dining room filled with standard-issue wooden tables and chairs; on the other, a series of convention-like rooms that often host wedding receptions. We are greeted warmly by the hostess and she shows us quickly to a table that is not too near other diners. The light is dim, the conversation subdued, and the decor is low-key, simple. Our water glasses are filled promptly while we peruse the menu and wine list. Wendy, our server, tells us about the specials. She is efficient and friendly, making me feel like we're in good hands for the evening. To begin, we order the antipasti platter and a bottle of 2006 Dolcetto d'Alba. The wine is dry, fruity but not sweet...decent table wine. At first, I am unexcited by the antipasti platter (it's difficult, in my opinion, to match the quality of Bistro Bella Vita's antipasti). After digging through the sheer variety of items, however, I realize I'd jumped the gun. Proscuitto, salami, and cured sausage match nicely with big chunks of smooth blue cheese, shavings of puckery parmesan, giant salty green olives, marinated peppers, and artichoke hearts. Although the risotto special (curried chicken and peas) sounds good, I decide to try the featured chef entree: two medium-rare beef tournedos, topped with creamy gorgonzola, and a fig reduction sauce. Fig and steak? Yes! The sweet fig pairs heavenly with the unseasoned, earthly beef while the gorgonzola spread spikes each bite with the sharp tang of mold-tinged cheese. Our second bottle of wine, a 2003 Barolo, is much more complex and fun to drink, evoking shades of pinot noir but with backbone enough to stand up to the steak and cheese. Jo opts for a salad and Ivan gets the seafood linguine. Juliet orders the hazelnut-crusted walleye. The delivery of our courses is leisurely; our entire meal takes nearly two and a half hours...not unusual for a lunch in Rome, but a dinner in Grand Rapids doesn't usually take quite this long. Luckily, we are having a good time talking and taking the pace slow. At the end, Wendy presents us with eight dessert selections, making three trips to the center table where all the dessert "models" are displayed. I feel bad for her, particularly since three-quarters of our table is too full for anything more. Curiously, I am still a bit hungry! I order the cannoli, which turns out to be nearly tasteless. Disappointing, perhaps, but I'm still buzzing from the success of the fig/beef combo to really care that much. Finally it is time to go. A gentleman meets us at the front door to explain the earlier sprinkles have erupted into steady downpour, and offers us a loaner umbrella to our car. It is the final nice touch on an evening of great service at a restaurant where we'd expected much less. While some of the dishes weren't a rousing success, there were enough memorable moments to put Noto's back on my radar when we're considering local Italian cuisine.

Didn't love the atmosphere (wasn't like any place I've seen in Italy); but the quality of the food more than made up for it. The service was also fantastic! The owners clearly cared that we enjoyed our experience and made us feel like we were longtime loyal customers. I felt like I was having dinner at the home of really good friends! I think one of the owners is named Tom, great guy!!! Can't wait to go back.

When my co-workers told me we were heading here for dinner I first heard them say were going to toto... I immediately thought to myself...toto? like dorothys little puppy? Well i guess im not in Kansas anymore...not that I ever was... We had live lounge music coming from the bar..think of every song that good ole blue eyes sang...all night during dinner... Down to the details..Started with the cesaar salad then for the main course I got the Cannelloni della Casa, A Noto family recipe of veal, homemade sausage, spinach and grana cheese, wrapped in fresh pasta then baked with Noto's classic meat sauce and mozzarella cheese assisted down by a bottle of the Sella & Mosca Marchese di Villamarina 1999 Cab for desert i had another bottle of the cab...:) We got a little tour of the downstairs wine cellar...HUGE...and the next time I go there im going for the chefs menu where you get to sit downstairs under a little dome...

FINE ITALIAN CUISINE! This review isn't to inform you about my High School days but more so to inform you of the GREAT people that really care about the people around them. Not only are they supportive of their community but they provide great food as well. Now, have you been having cravings for some good Italian food that is not just "Olive Garden" rated? Well, welcome to Noto's. I have known about this restaurant when I was in High School (~2001) when we found out that at that time, a teacher at our school, his family owned it. (not sure if he is still employed at the school or not) Anyhow, I was in Latin Class (yes, very odd for you Spanish Class students) but we were planning a trip to Italy and were trying to find some Fundraising opportunities. Mr Noto himself had heard about our class and what we were trying to do so he offered to let the students that were planning on going to Italy to come to his restaurant to manage the coat rack there for some tip money. HOW GENEROUS and NICE of him! Of course, I had volunteered ALL the time to do this. Why not? It as an offer that I took up to save me some money on my traveling expenses. When we got there, we were thinking "how classy" is this place. They had a dress code so not anyone wearing jeans could even be seated. I get it, because they were trying to establish a sense of "high-class" which I don't blame them. When you're trying to go out to a nice dinner and dress up for the occasion to be treated as special guests, you wouldn't want to be seated next to someone in flip flops and a hoody. We arrived at the coat room and thought to ourselves "there is no way we can even "bank" on this type of job opportunity. Well, we were WRONG. The guests there were generous to us. They saw our sign that we were volunteering to handle their coats in order to gain some tip money for our trip. We would walk away with generous amounts (I paid for my ENTIRE trip with this "job") To end our nights, Mr. Noto was more generous in feeding us dinner. Granted we were only there from about 5-10pm and only came into his restaurant to "hang coats",. he fed us SPECTACULAR meals. Each night, he would ask us what we wanted, and being passive High Schooler's we always said, "any leftovers would be ok". This gentlemen went above and beyond. He fed us FRESH meals that he would have the cooks make specifically for us. I can't even name all the meals that was served to us over time. We were even privileged to be surrounded by great management and great staff as well. They were always looking out and checking up on us. I have built relationships with them and I would not forget them. They all changed my life.

First let me say I didn't eat here so I will reserve my 'real review' until I have. I went in to have a drink and listen to the band. It was 8:30 on a Friday night and the bar was almost empty. It's a lovely place, clean and nicely decorated. They took our drink order of a beer and a bottled water. It took them about 10 minutes to deliver it to our table. And we were within 5 feet of the bar!! The music, however, was great! There was a pianist a singer doing a fun and cool show of covers. They would try anything you asked them to do. I enjoyed that a lot. I need to go back and check out the food.

Visiting from Cleveland, Ive got italian heritage and this food was the bomb. Service great and not as pricy as you would think. All in all thought it was very unique and good food. The cannolleon I was very good and the portion was huge. The meat sauce on it was great. The caprizi salad was good, I thought the bruchetta was skimpy but oh well.

The Noto family knows Italian and they sure know how to please their patrons. It had been several years since we dined in this beautiful faciltiy. We have enjoyed the banquet area and the lower wine cellar several times in the past but not the the dining room in quite a while. We were impressed all over again! The special menu for Valentines weekend was fantastic. We could have selected anything on the menu and been happy. Tom Noto personally counseled us on a beautiful wine selection as they have thousands in their inventory. Everyone in our party sincerely enjoyed their meals. We will not wait as long to return to this gem in Cascade. Thank you for the lovely evening.

Not bad, but not great. Bit overpriced. Your money is better spent at Olive Garden or Carrabas. For the money, upgrade to Tres Cugini downtown.j

My husband and I went out for date night last night and it was Wednesday so they have live jazz in the bar...which was fantastic. We were seated right away and had wonderful service. They have an amazing wine list ,white linens on the table and start you off with homemade foccacia bread with olive oil. We both had very nice salads mine was the Noto's and we both liked our entrees . I had Eggplant parmesan and my husband ordered the Talapia from the lighter fare menu. Everything was fresh and delicious. We too got to talk to Tony and his brother and we were given a tour of the place. They love what they do and it shows in how they care for the restaurant and the patrons. We will go back again very soon...and it doesn't have to be a special occasion it is all price levels of food. If you would rather just wear jeans and sit in the bar and eat you can do that as well as a outdoor patio on warm summer nights. So glad that we have this place in our neck of the woods!!!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
